Antisense agent improves the response rate in melanoma

Adding an anti-sense agent (oblimersen sodium, Genasense) that targets bcl-2 ( a protein that regulates cell apoptosis) to standard dacarbazine, may significantly improve overall survival with only a slight increase in adverse events, compared to dacarbazine alone. These data have been reported from New York in a large phase 3 trial in advanced melanoma patients.
