Nanoparticle Taxol (paclitaxel) is more effective

Homogenising paclitaxel (taxol) with human serum albumin under pressure produces nanoparticles that become a colloid when mixed with ordinary saline. Therapeutically these nanoparticles seem more effective than the usual preparation of taxol in delivering the drug into the tumour. This preliminary report was made at the 26thSan Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium. Furthermore, the researchers found that there was less toxicity with the nano-particle formulation. This could be an important observation that needs to be verified and, of course, could be of importance beyond the field of breast cancer.
