Specific protein molecules that are uniformly reactive against one protein determinant. The molecules are specific antibodies raised against one antigenic determinant; their importance in clinical oncology is that there are some humanised mouse monoclonal antibodies coming into clinical oncology that are proving useful in therapy by targeting specific antigenic determinants on tumour/cancer cells e.g. trastuzumab/herceptin in breast cancer and rituximab/mabthera in B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphomas.
