A pathologist is a doctor who identifies diseases, and in particular with regard to cancer, diagnoses cancer on the microscopic examination of specimens of tumour presented by him. Whilst classical pathological (histopathological) examination is performed by microscopy, modern pathological dsiagnosis depends more and more on extra tests from electron microscopy to special staining procedures (e.g. immunocytochemistry).
