Transthoracic biopsy

This is usually performed to obtain biopsy tissue when the suspected tumour in the chest is too peripheral to be able to be biopsied by bronchoscopy. The procedure is usually performed with a fine needle which is guided into the lesion by CT scanning. Sometimes the procedure is referred to as transthoracic fine needle aspiration cytology.
